In addition to research and teaching, higher education institutions are expected to be socially engaged and active within their communities. The Faculty of Mathematics recognizes the importance of public engagement and is highly active in this area. It carries out its public role through a wide range of activities, projects, collaborations with various stakeholders, and similar initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We recognize the need to change the perception of science (especially mathematics) and to improve the way STEM subjects are taught, with the goal of developing skills that are already essential for everyday work and participation in the labor market. Achieving this requires lifelong learning for teachers and educators, as well as improving mathematical literacy among children and young people. With this aim in mind, we actively design and implement activities focused on science popularization and innovating mathematics teaching, and we take part in events that bring science, scientific work, and scientific methods closer to the public and especially to children and youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Faculty places special emphasis on cooperation with the Agency for Education, mathematics teachers at all levels of education, and local authorities responsible for elementary and high schools (the City of Rijeka and Primorje – Gorski Kotar County). Furthermore, we lead and participate in numerous projects and collaborate with many institutions and associations. Civil society organizations play an important role in education, as their activities complement formal schooling. We have excellent cooperation with the Association of Mathematicians and Physicists, which has been active in Rijeka for over 70 years, as well as with the Alumni Club MatRi, which brings together our graduates. We would also highlight our very successful collaboration with the Technical Culture Center Rijeka on several projects. The Faculty also collaborates very successfully with the Golden Ratio association in organizing and implementing popular activities, as well as with the University of Rijeka and its constituent units.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
