The Faculty of Mathematics is highly active in designing and implementing activities aimed at the popularization of science, with particular emphasis on mathematics. We participate in numerous public events through which we seek to bring science, scientific research, and scientific methodology closer to the general public—especially children and young people. We are aware of the challenges faced by scientists, and mathematicians in particular, and we use every opportunity to highlight the presence of mathematics in everyday life and in the world around us, as well as the importance of the modes of thinking and reasoning developed through mathematics.
Our outreach and science communication activities have been recognized at the national level. Our staff member, Vedrana Mikulić Crnković, received the National Science Award for 2020 in the field of science popularization.
We are pleased that schools and teachers have recognized the value of our work and activities, and they frequently visit us through field trips, organized visits, and similar educational activities. Likewise, we are regular guests in schools, where we take part in school events and projects.
We take pride in the fact that science outreach activities are held regularly at the Faculty and that we consistently participate in a wide range of events and initiatives, including Večer matematike (Math Night), Festival znanosti (Science Festival), European Researchers’ Night (Researchers’ Night), Pint of Science, the celebration of the International Day of Mathematics, Dan darovitih, Rikon, and Baltazar na Gradini, among others.
